Über den Autor Jules Verne

Schon als Student beginnt Verne zu schreiben, doch erst als er den Jugendbuch-Verleger Jean-Pierre Hetzel kennenlernt, nimmt seine Karriere als Schriftsteller Fahrt auf. Wohl jeder hat einen seiner Abenteuer-Klassiker wie «20'000 Meilen unter den Meeren», «In 80 Tagen um die Welt», «Fünf Wochen im Ballon» oder «Zwei Jahre Ferien» gelesen bzw. als Film gesehen. Verne experimentiert aber auch mit anderen Genres und weiteren Themen, etwa in der «Reise zum Mond» (Zukunftsvision) oder seiner «Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde» (Phantastik). Der hier vorliegende Roman «Die Eissphinx» ist aber auch eine Hommage an den grossen Edgar Allan Poe. Durch seine Kontakte mit Naturforschern und Erfindern war er immer auf dem neuesten Stand des Wissens und liess seine Kenntnisse in die Abenteuer einfliessen.
