Casse-Noisette et le Roi des souris (ou Le Casse-noisette ou Histoire d'un casse-noisette ou encore La Noix de Kratakuk ; en allemand Nußknacker und Mausekönig) est un conte écrit par Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann et publié à Berlin en 1816. L'ouvre est reprise dans le recueil des Frères de Saint-Sérapion en 1819.Le conte est traduit en français par Émile de La Bédollière en 1838 ; cependant, une adaptation peu fidèle à l'original, faite par Alexandre Dumas en 1844, est restée longtemps la plus connue. C'est cette dernière que Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkovski a utilisée pour son ballet Casse-Noisette en 1892.

In it the children re-encounter the Psammead - the "it" in Five Children and It. As it no longer grants wishes to the children, however, its capacity is mainly advisory in relation to the children's other discovery, the Amulet, thus following a formula successfully established in The Phoenix and the Carpet.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (German: Nussknacker und Mausekönig) is a story written in 1816 by Prussian author E.T.A. Hoffmann, in which young Marie Stahlbaum's favourite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive and, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls. In 1892, the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov turned Alexandre Dumas's adaptation of the story into the ballet The Nutcracker.
